This hike leads you to historical monuments of the recent past. The tour begins in the authentic, vibrant village of Dryopida, hidden between the hills in the heartland of the island. This central spot in the hills has been once picked by the inhabitants as a shelter from the Pirates of the Aegean.
The trail starts at the end of the village and walk on the old farm roads down to the pristine beach of Lefkes. We wander through the slopes of farming terraces, formerly used to grow grain and vegetables, nowadays covered by green clover, grasses and wildflowers. If you are lucky, you can spot rare birds and insects like the praying mantis. Along the path we will see lost places like the former administrative buildings of the ore mining industry or old washing places of the village inhabitants. We will have a short break at a church with breathtaking views of the Western Cycladic islands. By clear weather, you can even see Paros and Naxos Island. Down at the beach of Lefkes we enjoy the idyllic scene.
At the very end of the beach, at the rocky shores, we will find the entrance to the old underground mines which can be explored. After some relaxing time at the beach and the surroundings we head back to the village of Dryopida to finish the evening off at a traditional village tavern or the open-air theatre at the village square.
Spend a wonderful day with us and enjoy the nature of the island.
