The breathtaking hike will start in Loutra, a popular stop over for sailors in the Northern part of the island. Once there, we will climb up to the roof of the island, to the ruins of the Castle of Oria, passing by green meadows with sheeps, horses and goats. The surrounding ancient settlement has been founded more the 1000 years ago and used to be the capital of the island during the Byzantine times. However, there are also signs that this area has been inhabited in prehistoric times. We will follow an ascending path at the edge of a gorge with amazing views, also of the surrounding islands.
At the end of the majestic canyon we will see the ruins of a castle. In spring we will find colorful wildflowers along the way. After a short break at the church on top of the hill we will descend down to Loutra.
Back to the village we take a refreshing bath in the sea or enjoy the hot springs right at the sea. The healing effect of the natural springs has been made popular by the first king of Greece, King Otto from Bavaria, and his wife who were frequent visitors of the hot springs. Enjoy your dinner at one of the numerous, local taverns with fresh fish and everything your heart desires.
